nneergh hypocrisy...

Very few things get under my skin, but hypocrisy is definitely one of them. On a picture in my photography account a DA user said my picture was boring and unoriginal. I suppose it is, in a way. I mean, I can take someone's opinion. It's an OPINION.

...but then I decided to take a look to see what stuff they've got themselves and well, pretty much every photograph in their gallery is blurry, standard myspace-style junk.

Am I right in thinking they're being a hypocrite? Am I just too anal? I suppose I'm getting too up in arms about this, but I can't helped but be a little bothered by it...

but please, PLEASE don't suss out their account and start flaming. It was just a comment. Nothing worth starting a diss war out of.

A lot of people are hypocrites, and at times, I certainly am one of them. I find it rather hard to constantly be true to myself, and not contradict myself more than daily.

On another note, I'm not entirely aware of the context of what they said, though it's very possible they might have been pointing it out because they wanted to see you improve in their eyes, and do something more awesome, regardless of if they thing their own content is good or not- and may have forgotten to give advice on how to achieve that. (You told me nothing about what they said about their own work, only what they said about yours. When people compare things, they're not always comparing to their own work, but to other things they experienced as well).

What I'm saying is. It's an opinion, and they probably had a purpose for it, manifest or latent.

Sometimes when I try to leave constructive criticism for someone, they take it as me trying to tell them they suck, when in fact, I'm simply trying to suggest how an improvement could be made, not send them into the depths of despair. x_x;

It's extremely difficult to leave an even remotely negative honest opinion that doesn't offend the recipient. Granted, said person who commented on your photo was just being flat out rude to start, whether they intended to or not.

That said... said person may simply have higher reviewing standards then they have for their own photography because their own skills are still being learned. When I was first learning to make music, I loved the stuff I wrote, even though by comparison with other tunes it was very sub-par, but I could still tell the difference between music that was extremely done well and music that sucked very hard, even though my music sucked and I thought it was awesome.
